How to set up a new (development) instance of Codidact/QPixel Question

The QPixel repository on GitHub contains the source code for the Codidact software.

How can I set up a new development instance of it, so that I can work on it on my local machine?

QPixel contains installations instructions in the README file which are somewhat different from the answers here. I wonder what can be done to not confuse people and have preferably only a single document containing this information. Maybe this question could restrict itself to what goes beyond the README or try to add instructions that are more specific for less popular systems like Anonymous in his answer.
